Star Wars

Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope was first released on May 25, 1977. It, and the two resulting sequels, Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode 6: Return of the Jedi, are on the Top Ten Grossing Films of all time. Star Wars launched a whole new era of science-fiction and computer graphics. Industrial Light and Magic, George Lucas' special effects company, has led the way in the the creation of new technology.

The movies spawned hundreds of books, comics, television shows, soundtracks, action figures, clothing lines, and every type of merchandise, right down to toothpaste and band-aids! (Yes, I have a Luke Skywalker toothbrush, and I'm looking for some Obi-wan toothpaste.) Besides, the movies just rock.

The first prequel film, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, was released May 21, 1999 and has already spawned more merchandise than necessary. Don't hate it because it's everywhere. Hate Jar Jar. It is a pretty weak story, Mannequin Skywalker can't act worth anything, and even the eye candy gets old. But love it because of Ewan McGregor. :-)
